Theo Altenburg: Statements with color

Black White Dark Light

I came across this photo shoot that Nick Knight did for i-d magazine and fell completely in love with it. I love the edgy fashion, the thigh highs, the queen herself, Kate Moss. Goth glam is also something that is really trendy right now and something that I definitely like. It's sexy but not in a very typical way.

Patterns Patterns Patterns!!!

My computer survey teacher said that we could basically do whatever we wanted for our final as long as we used the software extensively. So of course my natural reaction is to go crazy and make about a million patterns and not sleep for days, but they don't say SCAD stands for "Sleep Comes After Death" for nothing. Anyways, it was ridiculously fun and I'm really happy I learned how to do this because it's something I've been wanting to play with since forever. The end results were almost exactly as I imagined. I wanted to employ images that I had taken and warp them into otherworldly and, in some cases, almost unrecognizable forms. I CANNOT wait to print these onto fabric and make them into garments. Fingers crossed I get some Christmas money to do so!

Logo Love

Meanwhile as I am throwing up everything that I like that I've worked for this quarter onto the blog I completely forgot that I didn't share my logo from several weeks ago! It was chill working with illustrator to create a logo that represents bold, clean, timeless simplicity. I found inspiration in art deco jewelry when designing the logos. I also looked at islamic patterns and gained inspiration from there. If you haven't seen the beautiful mathematical majesty that is islamic patterns, there are some examples below. I wanted to logo to represent modernity and use powerful unadorned shapes. It was also important to me that my logo be something pictorial, instead of using initials or the like, as I am unsure of wether I would design under my name in the future. I had so many ones to choose from and I'm pretty much obsessed with all of them!!

Random Illustrations

I did these illustrations for a booklet project for my computer course. I feel like they have potential, but the booklet didn't turn out exactly as I intended. I wanted the drawings to have a very gestural and organic feel to them. I wanted them to evoke glamor and movement in their painterly qualities and I think, in that sense, they were successful. Enjoy!

Intro. to Sketching Collection: The Wild Desert

Desert Places by Robert Frost

Snow falling and night falling fast, oh, fast
In a field I looked into going past,
And the ground almost covered smooth in snow,
But a few weeds and stubble showing last.

The woods around it have it--it is theirs.
All animals are smothered in their lairs.
I am too absent-spirited to count;
The loneliness includes me unawares.

And lonely as it is that loneliness
Will be more lonely ere it will be less--
A blanker whiteness of benighted snow
With no expression, nothing to express.

They cannot scare me with their empty spaces
Between stars--on stars where no human race is.
I have it in me so much nearer home
To scare myself with my own desert places.
